DERMASAVER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long has DermaSaver been on the market?
The first DermaSaver products shipped in August 2005. The number of repeat purchases is a great testimony to the efficacy and durability of the products. We are constantly refining, improving and developing new products.
What makes DermaSaver unique as a skin protective textile?
The MicroSpring textile has 4000 microfilaments per square inch that act as miniature springs to reduce pressure, shear, and friction. The air space between the filaments allows for breathability. And unlike foams and other products DermaSaver is totally institution launderable. The DermaSaver MicroSpring textile is an excellent replacement for hot and sweaty foams and neoprene. Additionally, the compression resistive force of DermaSaver closely matches that of soft tissue, making DermaSaver like a soft protective extra skin layer.
What makes the Skin Tubes™ unique?
The patent pending tubes fit an arm or leg loosely because the MicroSpring textile™ gives them body to stay elongate without slipping down or bunching up. Comfortable protection stays where you need it without having to be tight and binding on the skin.
Why are there so many sizes of each product?
People come in many different sizes and just as you need a variety of sizes for clothing, shoes, etc, it is necessary to have a variety of sizes for the DermaSaver products. While it may take slightly more effort to determine the proper size, this will insure that the products properly fit each resident to provide the maximum protection and comfort.
How Do I know what size to order?
Measure around the widest part of the forearm for the arm tubes and the widest part of the calf for the leg tubes. For the amputee stump cover measure 2” about the amputation site. For heel protection measure around the instep and the heel. Click here for sizing charts.
How do I wash the DermaSaver products?
All DermaSaver (except the Oxygen/Feeding tube covers) are machine wash and dry even in hot institution laundries. As with any garment, lower temperatures and gentler cycles will extend the life of the product.
Why aren’t the Oxygen Tube/Feeding Tube Covers launderable?
Because they have a strip of medical grade adhesive to keep them from slipping down on the tube. The adhesive cannot be laundered.
How long will do DermaSaver products last?
DermaSaver products are made to be durable. Most of the products should last for a year before showing significant signs of wear.
Can I use the same DermaSaver product on different patients?
Since the DermaSaver products can be laundered at high temperatures, the products are patient transferable.
Do I put the tubes over or under the residents’ clothing?
To achieve the best result, the DermaSaver Skin Tubes should be next to the person’s skin. Because the surfaces of the DermaSaver’s MicroSpring Textile are super soft and have much less friction or shear than ordinary fabrics. You will however, still get some benefit even if you put the tubes over the clothing.
Is DermaSaver cost effective?
Yes, although DermaSaver products may seem more costly in some cases, they have three key advantages: Patient transferability, durability, and most importantly, they actually work. The fact that DermaSaver actually produces a preventative and therapeutic result reduces dressing materials and labor cost.
How do patients accept DermaSaver?
Most residents find them much more comfortable than traditional products. We’ve had reports of patient’s accepting the DermaSaver products when they had previously not accepted any other products. Caregivers love to tell us stories such as the patient entering the shower and saying “Make sure those leg tubes are there when I get out” or the 102 year old woman who said the arm tubes were “neat.” and another saying “Make sure those tubes don’t get lost in the laundry”

If DermaSaver is so good why is it just now developed?
Many of the suppliers in long-term care are content to sell the same products they’ve sold for years and are not particularly interested in patient focused innovation.
DermaSaver was developed by Ed Goodwin, an engineer who, in 1996 developed HipSaver®
the first hip protector with soft sewn-in pads that can be laundered in hot institution laundries. Engineers, like front line providers, concentrate on solving problems as their primary mission.
Ed and the design team at HipSaver, Inc, are constantly working on product improvements and
new product development. The best ideas come from caregivers. You can call Ed Goodwin
